Habe mich mal wieder ein wenig mit Judas Priest beschäftigt und finde die Ripper Alben mit am stärksten. Blood Stained zum Beispiel hat dermaßen viel Power
Ansonsten eben die üblichen Verdächtigen: Defenders, Sad Wings, Sin after Sin und Stained Class.

Demolition ist eine eher langweilige Scheibe, Jugulator fand ich früher extraklasse, heute nicht mehr so, aber immer noch eine gute Scheibe. Priests letzte klasse Scheibe war eben die Jugulator.

Blood Stained ist wirklich geil, aber auf dem Album ist er zu lang (ein langes Zwischenspiel nach 4 Minuten, glaube ich); auf dem 98-er Livealbum ist eine klasse Version enthalten, die etwas kürzer und geiler ist.

Painkiller war sogar genial!

Die Ripper Alben find ich auch mit am sschwächsten, was aber auf keinen Fall an ihm liegt. Jugulator ist noch ganz gut, Burn In Hell ist klasse. Demolition find ich extrem schwach, keine Ahnung wie mans schaffen soll die am Stück zu hören. Da ist sogar Nostradamus ein ganzes Stück besser.

Nee "Jugulator" hör ich heute noch öfters als die "Painkiller". Und gerade da fällt mir immer wieder ein das ich das Livealbum "Meltdown" noch brauch.

Judas Priest, the heavy metal legends whose influence on generations of musicians and metalheads is incalculable, celebrate their 40th year as recording artists this year with the release of the live concert EPITAPH. A unique live career retrospective, EPITAPH will be released on Blu-ray and separate DVD on May 28th through Legacy Recordings, a division of SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. This release precedes a new studio album by Judas Priest which the band are working on now.

Judas Priest's current lineup comprises lead singer Rob Halford, lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis.

Heavy metal historians will regard EPITAPH as the most far-reaching live concert recording in the band's career. The set revisits the climactic closing date of the 50-week "Epitaph World Tour," captured live at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on May 26, 2012. Adding to the drama is the fact that this was Judas Priest’s final large-scale world tour ever. EPITAPH’s 23 tracks represent at least one song from every one of the band’s 14 studio albums, from 1974’s Rocka Rolla (“Never Satisfied”) to 2008’s Nostradamus (“Prophecy”).

In the special case of British Steel, four songs are featured: “Rapid Fire,” “Metal Gods,” “Breaking The Law,” and perennial set closer, “Living After Midnight.” Others exempted from the one-song-quota are the LPs which appeared before and after British Steel. The first of these is 1979’s Hell Bent For Leather (UK title: Killing Machine) which lends the title song as well as “The Green Manalishi (With The Two-Pronged Crown).” The other LP is 1982’s Screaming For Vengeance, source of “The Hellion,” “Electric Eye,” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming.”

“They have epitomized the genre with their Harley riding frontman, rapid-fire guitar assaults, and spectacular stage shows,” wrote journalist Bryan Reesman in his liner notes for 2004's leather-bound, metal-spiked Metalogy box set. “Influential, innovative, and exuberant in expression,” he wrote, “they are the true Metal Gods who have been as unwavering in their desire to expand the boundaries of their music as they have been in crossing international borders to deliver it to their disciples.”

Endlich
Wird gekauft. Die Tour war klasse, Halford war super drauf. Das Ding wird sicher besser als die Rising In The East.

Super! :rock: Ich war 2 mal auf der EPITAPH Tour, in Berlin und Nürnberg, beidemal geil! Schade nur, daß das ganze nicht auch als Live CD rauskommt! Die DVD wird auf jeden Fall gekauft!

Ich finde es schade, dass Halford nicht Sachen von der Jugulator oder Demolition singt. Wenigstens Burn In Hell oder Death Row sowie Machine Man oder Metal Messiah hatten es mal in die Setlist schaffen konnen anstelle der beiden Coversongs. Sowas hat mich bei Bands schon immer genervt. Judas Priest ist Judas Priest und nicht Rob Halford. Iron Maiden spielen ja auch noch Stucke von den ersten beiden Alben, sowie aus der Blaze-Phase. Warum das bei manchen nicht geht, verstehe ich absolut nicht. Dieses Egogehabe muss doch nicht sein...

Die Maidenscheiben ohne Bruce sind aber auch lange nicht so schwach wie die Priest Scheiben ohne Halford.
Ich persönlich hätte zwar nichts gegen Blood Stained, Death Row oder Cathedral Spires aber der größte Teil der Fans hat da kein Bock drauf und ich kann auch drauf verzichten, bei den Knallern, die Prit sonst so im Gepäck haben.

Ich finde jetzt nicht, dass Virtual XI starker ist als meinetwegen Jugulator, nein. Ich finde in der Setlist doch ein oder zwei inzwischen totgespielte Stucke (Living After Midnight beispielsweise), die man hatte austauschen konnen. Die Fans werden bei einer Setlist von 23 Stucken sicher eher positiv uberrascht, wenn da zwei uberraschende Lieder mit dabei sind. Wenn man zudem das klare Ziel hat die ganze Karriere mit der Tour abzudecken, dann muss man da auch konsequent sein.

Natürlich Living After Midnight oder You've got another Thing Comin' sind absolut ausgelutscht, aber über Ripper-songs hätten sich die Fans bestimmt nicht mehr gefreut, meine Einschätzung zumindest.
Die Ripper Ära ist halt bei den meisten Priest Fans ziemlich unbeliebt, deshalb kann ich die Band verstehen, dass sie die Phase ausgelassen haben. Und viele sind da sicher auch froh dass sie da nicht "konsequent" geblieben sind.

Bei Iron Maiden gingen Liveversionen von The Clansman und Co. auch richtig ab und wurden von den Fans frenetisch empfangen, obwohl Virtual XI viele gar nicht kannten und das Album sehr oft zerrissen wurde. Das muss also meiner Meinung nach alles gar nichts heissen und einen mutigen Versuch ware es sicher mal wert gewesen. Aber ich verstehe schon worauf du hinaus willst und kann deien Argumente sehr gut nachvollziehen.
