So, aber Schluss damit, hier das Review (ich hoffe, dass ich hier auf mehr Verständnis stoße...):
After their Magnum-Opus "The Blackening", I asked myself if it is possible to create a record which can hold this high level. So, it needed 4 or 5 times listening to "Unto the Locust" until i could gave an answer: Yes, it is! The greatness of Machine Head, that started with "Through the Ashes of Empires" and had its highest point at "The Blackening", is continued with the new Machine Head-Masterpiece "Unto the Locust"!
When I heard the title-track "Locust" a few month before the release of the album, I was fascinated! That song was the perfect Mix of Groove, Thrash and a bit Modern Metal that I expected from Machine Head. But I thought they would release the best song first to get people interested in the new release. But I was wrong: "Locust" is only a great part of a great album. When I listen to the first tones of "I am Hell (Sonata in C#)", the atmosphere of the first part of that song carries my mind along. The main part of this song is as much Thrash-Metal as there could be on a Machine Head record and can reach the niveau of "Aesthetics of Hate". The second one, "Be still and know" is a groove metal song and I can't explain the greatness of Rob's high vocals in the bridge. So, the third song, "Locust", is described at the beginning of this review. "This is the End" is the second really fast song: After the acoustic beginning, it reminds me of black metal (!). After that, it is a thrash-song with a few metalcore influences, which are surprisingly great in this song. The song, that is responsible for the fact, that "The Blackening" is better than "Unto the Locust", and that this album has not 100%, is "Darkness Within". The middle-part and the solos are great, but the verses at the beginning are a little too low for a Machine Head song, I think. But that doesn't mean the song is bad. It's only no 100 point song, it's only "very good". After that, the album has two more highlights. The first one, "Pearls before the Swine", has the best arrangement of the seven new songs, and the music of this song reminds me of Nevermore. Nevermore is one of my favourite bands, so, the song is awesome! "Who we are", the last song, is a real hymn, that Machine Head had not really before. The verses are a bit like the technical Thrash, that Megadeth play and the Chorus is very melodic and sounds a bit true metal-like.
So, 6 awesome songs, 1 very good song. "Unto the Locust" is after "The Blackening" the best Machine Head album, and if the band continues writing songs in this Thrash/Groove style, Machine Head cannot do something wrong. I hope that the next three albums are also as good as the three last. I hope all good for their future!
